The Saginaw Spirit have announced the signing of Sam Povorozniuk, their second round pick (36th overall) in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection.Povorozniuk, a 5-foot-8, 165-pound winger from Northbrook, Ill., scored 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points with the Chicago Steel last season. Povorozniuk was recently selected to play for the US Under-17 Select Team that will compete internationally this August.
He will wear No. 95 next season for the Spirit.
According to the OHL scouting report, Povorozniuk is a highly skilled and smart offensive minded forward who possesses a ton of natural ability. He has high end stickhandling skills, great footwork, speed with and without the puck, and excellent acceleration with a special ability to find that extra gear to create separation from defenders.
