Whalers fall out of first place

The Plymouth Whalers fell out of a three-way tie for first place in the OHL's West Division with a win and a loss last weekend.

Friday night in Guelph, Cory Tanaka and co-captain Tim Sestito each had a goal and an assist to lead the Whalers to a 3-1 win over the Storm. John Vigilante also scored and Ryan Nie made 17 saves.

Saturday night at home, Brody Todd scored three goals as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defeated the Whalers 6-2 to move atop the division.

The Greyhounds took first with the win and the Windsor Spitfires losing 6-2 to the Peterborough Petes.

The Greyhounds, Whalers and Spitfires were all tied for first heading into action Saturday.

Mike Looby and Tanaka scored for Plymouth (24-24-5-3). Nie stopped 17 shots before being pulled after the fifth goal for Justin Garay, who finished with four saves.

Plymouth plays in Saginaw Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
