IceDiggers back home Saturday night

The Alpena IceDiggers return to Northern Lights Arena at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Traverse City North Stars.

The IceDiggers are coming off a two-game sweep of the Marquette Rangers last weekend. On Friday, Alpena traveled to Marquette and came away with a 4-3 shootout win. Isaac Viau led the way with two goals and two assists and Jimmy McCusker chipped in a goal and an assist. Nick Graves made 23 saves to earn the win in net for Alpena.

On Saturday, it was all Alpena as the IceDiggers dumped Marquette, 4-0, in front of the home crowd. Erik Peterson scored two power-play goals and rookie JC Gulch added two assists. Graves picked up his second shutout of the season making 25 saves.

Traverse City is last in the North Division with a record of 12-18-10. Alpena took over second place in the North with their two wins last weekend and have a record of 25-13-3 and have a total of 53 points.

"As a team we know every night is going to be a battle," said Alpena head coach Kenny Miller. "Every team in this division is capable of beating anyone on any given night. We have to continue to get better each and every day."
