Alpena heads south for two in St. Louis

The Alpena IceDiggers will make their only regular season trip to St. Louis this weekend for a two-game set against the Bandits. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. both nights.

The IceDiggers players enjoyed a few days off before hitting the ice Monday for an on-ice workout. Alpena's last game came on Saturday, Feb. the 2 when the dropped a 3-1 decision to Traverse City.

"The guys had a few days to rest and relax now it is time to get back to work and get ready for a talented St. Louis club," said Alpena head coach Kenny Miller.

St. Louis (36-8-1) swept the Texas Tornado in Frisco last weekend. The Bandits sit atop the North Division standings while Alpena is in third place in the tight division.

"This is a big test for us," added Miller. "We are going on the road and playing the best team in the league this is a challenge we will be ready for."

The two teams met at the North Division showcase in Boardman back in January with the IceDiggers winning the first game by a score of 6-2. Nick Graves picked up the win making 28 saves. Erik Peterson had a a goal and two assists in the win. In game two, the IceDiggers lost 4-3 in a shootout. Once again, Graves was stellar in net making 34 saves. Former Bandit and current IceDiggers forward Bryan Ross scored a goal in the loss.
