Wieser, a 19-year-old from Villach, Austria, fashioned an 8-2-1 record in February, including shutouts over the Motor City Metal Jackets on Feb. 19 (42 saves) and the Marquette Rangers on Feb. 26 (34), to compliment a 2.14 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.
“Marco has given us a chance to win every night all season long and his recent play has fueled our team with confidence,” said IceDiggers head coach Jack Fritsche. “He’s made some tremendous momentum-swinging saves, which is what you need down the stretch.”
In 36 appearances this season, Wieser, who played for Villach’s Under-20 Team in Austria last season and also represented Austria at this year’s World Junior Championships, holds an 18-17-1 mark to go along with a 2.76 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage.
“It’s a tremendous honor to receive this award,” said Wieser. “My teammates have been really good in front of me, which has made my job easier.”
