Saginaw's O'Marra part of Ryan Smyth trade

Saginaw Spirit center Ryan O'Marra, along with New York Islanders' prospect Robert Nilsson and the Islanders' first round pick in 2007, were traded to the Edmonton Oilers today at the NHL trade deadline in exchange for standout forward Ryan Smyth.

O'Marra was drafted in the first round (15th overall) by the Islanders in 2005.

O'Marra was acquired by the Spirit in November 2006 in a trade with the Erie Otters. He has recorded 13 goals and 25 points in 26 games since joining the Spirit. O'Marra won gold medals at both the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championship as a member of Team Canada.

This is not the first time a member of the Spirit organization has had a connection to the Oilers' organization. Spirit head coach and general manager Bob Mancini is a former Oilers' scout and associate head coach Ian Herbers once played for Edmonton.
