Lepkowski introduced in Saginaw

The Saginaw Spirit welcomed newly-signed defenseman Alex Lepkowski to Saginaw on Tuesday.

The 1993-born West Seneca, N.Y., native was chosen by the Spirit with the 66th overall pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. Lepkowski played with St. Francis Prep of the MPHL last season.

“Saginaw was a great option for me and the OHL is second to none,” stated Lepkowski. “I am looking forward to developing my skills and contributing to this team."

Lepkowski also attended the team’s rookie camp in late May.

“Camp went very well for me," said Lepkowski. "The coaches and veterans were very helpful, but the camp was still very competitive.”

Lepkowski, who signed with the team earlier in the month, is scheduled to attend Saginaw’s August training camp.

In addition to meeting with Lepkowski, the Spirit also welcomed the Osweiler family to the organization. Larry and Judy Osweiler will be joining other Great Lakes Bay families in billeting players during the season and will host Lepkowski for the 2009-2010 season.

“We really just wanted to help out and be a part of developing a young individual,” stated Larry Osweiler. “We are empty-nesters now that our two boys have grown up and look forward to Alex moving in and being a part of our family.”
