Both the Saginaw Spirit and Plymouth Whalers lost Saturday night as the West Division standings remain tight.
In Belleville, John Hughes registered a goal and two assists and Kevin Lalande made 40 saves to lead the hometown Bulls to a 4-1 win over the Whalers.
Matt Beleskey, former Whaler Cory Tanaka and Shawn Matthias added goals for the Bulls.
Captain John Vigilante replied for the Whalers (24-22-1-3) and Justin Garay, in his first start in nearly three months, made 27 saves in a losing effort.
Guelph captain Ryan Callahan scored twice and added an assist as the Storm edged Saginaw, 4-3, in Saginaw last night.
Mike McLean and Ryan Parent also scored for the Storm.
Ryan McDonough, Michal Birner and captain Patrick McNeill countered for the Spirit (27-22-1-0).
Ryan MacDonald made 23 saves for the win while Francois Thuot stopped 33 shots at the other end.
The Spirit remain in first place with 55 points and the Whalers remain three back. Windsor sits in third place with 50 points.
Plymouth plays in Ottawa this afternoon and Saginaw travels to Ottawa Friday night.
