The Saginaw Spirit lost 4-2 to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds last night at home, ending a 2007-2008 season that saw a regular-season record of 33-25-8-2 with 76 points and a winless post-season record.
Chris Chappell and Nick Crawford notched goals for Saginaw in the effort.
Chappell gave the Spirit a 1-0 lead early in the game with a goal at 10:09 of the first period. The Greyhounds would be quick to respond, scoring two goals to give themselves a 2-1 lead exiting the period. Anthony Peluso notched a goal at 14:03 of the period and Brandon Biggers followed with a goal at the 15:45 mark.
Both teams traded goals in the second period. Crawford fired one in from the blue line at the 11:49 mark and the Greyhounds would answer with a goal from Wayne Simmonds at 18:56.
The two teams would battle into the third period. The Spirit pulled goalie Edward Pasquale in the final seconds for an extra attacker, but Dustin Jeffrey scored an empty-net goal with five seconds left.
Pasquale tallied 28 saves, giving him the second star of the game. Greyhounds goalie Kyle Gajewski earned the first star of the game with 32 saves.
