The Plymouth Whalers opened 2006 much like they ended 2005 - with a loss.
Friday night at home, goaltender Jeremy Smith (left) made his first OHL start, but suffered a 4-3 loss to the Erie Otters despite making 35 saves.
Tom Sestito, Jared Boll and Mike Letizia all scored for the Whalers.
Then Sunday afternoon in Windsor, the Spitfires pounded the Whalers, 8-1. Captain John Vigilante's second-period power-play goal was the lone highlight for Plymouth.
Justin Peters and Smith combined for 30 saves.
With the loss, Plymouth remains in first place in the OHL’s West Division with a record of 19-13-1-3, two points ahead of the Saginaw Spirit, who is 20-15-0-0.
Plymouth starts a three-game road trip through Northern Ontario on Thursday when they play in Barrie. The Whalers continue on the road Friday in Sudbury and Saturday in Sault Ste. Marie.
Plymouth’s next home game is Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Compuware Sports Arena against Saginaw.
