The Saginaw Spirit claimed forward Dean Pawlaczyk off the OHL waiver wire Monday.
Pawlaczyk, a 19-year-old Madison Heights native, played 48 regular season games with the Barrie Colts and Sarnia Sting last year. He compiled a goal, five points and 135 penalty minutes.
The previous season with Barrie, he had three points and 117 penalty minutes in 43 games.
Pawlaczyk started his junior career with the Traverse City North Stars in 2008-2009, tallying three goals and two helpers in 45 games.
Dan Pawlaczyk, Dean's uncle, played for the Detroit Jr. Red Wings/Detroit Whalers from 1993-1996, winning an OHL title in 1995 and getting to the Memorial Cup finals.
