After a weekend where the Alpena IceDiggers (30-13-2) finished with a 1-2 record, the second-place club will now turn their attention to this weekend when they play host to division-leading Mahoning Valley (34-10-1).
Friday and Saturday's contests start at 7:00 p.m. at Northern Lights Arena. The Phantoms hold a seven-point lead on Alpena in the North Division standings. The two clubs have played 45 games and both teams have 17 games remaining in the regular season before the post-season begins in early April.
"We hit a bump in the road last week," Alpena coach Kenny Miller said. "This weekend will be a chance for us to see what we are made of. The Phantoms are arguably the best team in the NAHL and we are looking forward to the challenge of the games at hand."
The IceDiggers played shorthanded last weekend as forward Justin Stadler missed two games with an injury. Miller expects Stadler to play this weekend if he is cleared by team doctors. Alpena native Erik Peterson missed Friday and Saturday's games due to personal reasons, but he will be in the lineup for Friday's game.
