Whalers' Brophey ready to sign with Chicago

The Chicago Blackhawks are eager to sign Evan Brophey.

"We'll do it today if he wants," said Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon yesterday from Chicago.

"It doesn't matter to me. A big centreman with skill? That's something that we can use."

Perhaps Tallon will bring a pen and a standard three-year NHL entry-level contract to London tonight.

Tallon plans to attend as Brophey's Plymouth Whalers try to finish off the Knights in the Ontario Hockey League's Western Conference final.
